Seedlings of California Black Walnut (Juglans hindsii) are choice for grafting named varieties of both English walnut and Eastern Black walnut. They make a majestic tree producing hard shelled nuts on there own. Can be grafted as seedlings, but easier to get consistent takes if grown on to at least 2" caliper thickness in the field first.
