The mother tree is from the Sagasser Rnch on the Salmon River in far northern California, and has survived untended for many years in a very challenging situation. Diane Wickstrom's grandfather, who was a whaling captain in the late 1800s, settled here on the river and sent for his sweetheart in the Azores to come join him. She brought along a cutting of this fig from the Isle of Flores.
