Its huge cones which hang for many years on the tree are packed with very large pine nuts that are very tasty and nutritious and were a staple of the native tribes of the region.The pitch was also used as a medicine. Very drought tolerant, it casts a light shade allowing other plants to be grown in its vicinity. Hardy zones 7b-10.
