Native and widely grown in China, Southeast Asia and Africa where it is known as Sambung Nyawa, or LIfe Extender. Longevity Spinach has recently become very popular in the US due to its health promoting effects. Said to be a great herb for diabetics due to its blood sugar lowering properties, it is also said to lower cholesterol levels and high blood pressure,as well as help with hyper tension by increasing nitric oxide production in the blood vessels. Also becoming well know for its anti-inflammatory effects due to its many bio-active alkaloids and steroids. An easy to grow perennial trailing vine/ ground cover it grows to about 12" tall and is excellent as a green in many culinary dishes. Related to Okinawa Spinach it can be grown similarly either outside in milder climates, or in containers and brought indoors for the winter where it freezes. Hardy zones 9-11.
