Beautiful shrub to small tree has showy purple flowers that are very attractive to the bees. Fast growing legume is a great nitrogen fixer helping to build fertile soil. Can grow 15 to 20 feet tall and wide if left unpruned, but also can be made into a living trellis tree and kept to any size with pruning. Makes a good tough windbreak, specimen or hedge. Has some insecticidal and dye plant uses. Starts easily from cuttings. Hardy zones 4-9.
