Discovered by Jesse Hiatt in Peru Iowa around 1890 it was originally named Hawkeye. Later discovered by Stark Brothers nursery in 1893 and renamed Stark Delicious. It is now known as the original Red Delicious. It has the classic Red Delicious shape with red stripping over a yellow background. Sweet and delicious it has way superior flavor to most of the modern day Red delicious varieties that have been bred for their solid red coloring. Hardy, productive easy to grow tree.
