Fall/ winter blooms are bright red, super showy and provide vital food for hummingbirds, butterflies and bees during a lean time of year. Makes a great splash of color to brighten up the winter landscape. Very easy to grow as long as you protect from hard freeze. We like to plant them on the south side of structures to give a little extra protection during cold snaps and can be grown in containers and brought inside in cold winter climates. Also good to mulch heavily to protect the crown as they will readily sprout from the base if they do freeze back. Native to Mexico it's also valued for its citrus mint flavored blossoms and sweet pineapple fragrant leaves which are used as a tea and spice. Hardy zones 8B-10.
