Tree Peppers (Capsicum pubescens) are a perennial evergreen shrub native to Bolivia and Peru, though it is currently only known in cultivation. . Its use dates back to pre-Incan times, with it now widely cultivated and an important food in Mexico and the Andean countries. Highly popular in Peru where it is used fresh, dried, made into a paste and cooked into sauces. The Manzano variety is larger fruited and yellow in color with a milder heat than Red Rocoto. Juicy with an aromatic flavor they are excellent used raw or cooked. Very heavily productive and long lived. Can handle cool temperatures, but not frost. Great for container or greenhouse culture and is grown outdoors in Southern California and similar climates. Root easily from cuttings.
