Colutea is an easy to grow beautiful nitrogen fixing leguminous shrub native to Europe and northern Africa. Vigorous growing to 8 feet tall maximum, it can be pruned to smaller sizes and makes a great small trellis tree for growing grapes and other vines on. The flowers bloom for a long time and are beautiful shades of yellow, orange and red. They are followed by colorful large pinkish red bladders (pods) that contain its seeds, hence the name Bladder Senna. Very ornamental, good for erosion control and useful in the permaculture landscape. Can take poor soil and dry conditions. Hardy down to zone 5b.
