Mate makes a beautiful evergreen bush or small tree hardy down to 18F. Its leaves are easy to harvest and make a wonderful stimulating tea popular in South America and now the US. It is a member of the holly family and if you have both a male and female plant of it the female will have lots of pretty red berries in the fall, which are eventually happily consumed by the birds. These are seedlings and will either be male or female. Plant a few for berries and plenty of tea!
